A lot of the wells were closed in NJ AND CT AS well. Be ready for that.

Technically not legal, but over the years I've seen many thru hikers and locals camping at Island Pond, located just east of Elk Pen. From Elk Pen hike over Green Pond Mountain and go about another 1/2 mi.

Dispersed camping is allowed in NY west of NY 17/Harriman State Park (see ATC camping regulations link below). There's an area large enough for a boy scout troop to camp 0.2 mi N of Lakes Rd (~1.7 mi N of Wildcat Shelter, just past a footbridge over a stream). The only other tent sites I remember on that stretch were along the shore of Little Dam Lake, about 3 mi S of NY 17.

It's all good in the woods.

There is a new shelter at Fahnestock state park specifically for AT hikers. A bathroom with piped water is available year round at the east end of the beach. The shelter is roughly 2 miles north of NY 301 just north of the north end of Canopus Lake on a bypass trail(shelter loop) of about .75 miles. It is roughly 5 miles south of RPH. See my two posts on the Dennytown road thread.

According to the Far Out app, you cross a stream 0.1 mi north of West Mombasha road and there is a small campsite roughly 0.1 mi north of the stream. I can't affirm this campsite as I don't remember seeing it on my section hike.

About .25 north or Mombasha High Point there is a nice stealth site nestled into a small hollow. 2-3 good tent sites. No water, BYOB.
