    Default McAfee Knob

Planning a section starting in near there. Depending on how my timeline hits, which shelter or campsite would you recommend? Is Pig Farm Campsite or Campbell Shelter too popular/messy? Should I bring an extra trash bag for all the litter?

Campbell is on the far side of McAfee's Knob from 311, so it's usually slightly less crowded than Catawba shelter. I'd consider that option strongly.

Avoid the area if it's been raining, it's a horrible slick muddy mess because the area is so overused.

No, it's really not a horrible muddy mess. At all. That was an issue at one point further north as you get close to Daleville. But that's not really true at all near 311.

Campbell for sure. There is plenty of tenting close to the shelter and a semi-separate camping area just north of the shelter. Reliable water source.
