    Default shelter photos guide

Any web-sites that have photos of shelters listed by state? I am trying to locate a shelter in central Virginia and I could recognize it if I saw a photo. This shelter was between US 220 and Pearisburg and it had a loft. Newer shelter with stream/creek in front of it.

Is it the new Sarver Hollow shelter? Don't know of any websites that show all shelters. The club that built it may have a site with photos.

Default it's not on this site

I did check the photos on this site but it's not listed. I'll figure it out with maps and post what I come up with.

    Default Bryant Ridge Shelter

The shelter I was looking for is Bryant Ridge Shelter, it is north of the section I thought it was in. I'd like to take my wife camping in that area. She is not a backpacker but I think she would love a night at this shelter.

Rich- This shelter area gets very buggy. Mosquitos were hell last year when I was there in mid June. It would be a good idea to bring a tent.

    Default Tenting

Daisie, I remember the skeeters there. But, I also recall that there wasn't really a good place to set up a tent. Most of the surrounding area is on a slope. I probably would have tented because of the bugs if there was a good place to tent.

Very true Peaks. There a very few spaces to put up a tent. But if you are determined, you can find one. There were three tenters the night that I was there. You just have to have a smallish tent.

In 2000 the roof on this shelter leaked pretty good. Have they ficed that problem?

As I recall, there's a 3000' climb leaving this shelter. One of many in Virginia.

It's always amazing how people recall shelters differently. I thought this was a place of a place. We were there May 27, 2001. No bugs. Didn't rain that night and no indication in the register that the roof leaked. Little Bear is right about the climb up to Apple Orchard Mt. But, IMHO, the view made it all worth it.
