Heard about this...as a hammock camper myself, I find this kind of thing terrifying. This is why I always try to stop before dark so I can inspect the canopy for any widow makers.

I don't know any particulars on this one, but, this is also a reason to pitch your hammock with that 30 to 45 degree sag in it. As a hammock with no sag can generate a shocking amount of pull when you put your body weight into it. I've actually broken pretty good sized trees by not leaving any sag in a hammock.
