    Default Epipens On Trail

I was never allergic to bee stings, but I am now. Had a severe reaction this time....like I thought I was going to die b/c I couldn't breathe. Anyway, the Epipen I got says to keep it at room temp. What do others do when thru hiking in hot and cold weather?

    Thanks

It's just in the first aid kit, inside my pack, readily accessible. In hot weather, I'll make sure it's not near the outside of the pack where the sun might beat down and get it hot.

Not really an issue in the cold, the bees get less active, and if it's cold enough to freeze the contents, there will be no bees at all.

Keep it in the middle of your pack - It will stay cooler during hot months. Keep it in an inside jacket pocket in really cold weather.
.....Someday, like many others who joined WB in the early years, I may dry up and dissapear....

I have one and use it on the trail. When you soak it it really absorbs the water and swells up. It doesn’t drip badly after the outside dries, mine came with an outer cover. If it’s newly wet I put it in the outer mesh pocket of my pack. I might leave it there or put it on top inside my pack. I’ve never had a problem and the inside always seems cool. At night I put it at the head of my tent.
I tend to keep it wet, pouring extra water on it at night or before I start in the morning.
For consistency I use it dry in cold weather and bury it in my pack and sleep with it in the top of my sleeping bag.
For consistency I use it at home.

You need to remember that you (or someone with you) will need to be able to find and use the pen quickly, so make sure to put it in an easily accessible place in your pack. It won't help much if it's on the bottom of the pack and you have to dig for it, wasting valuable time.
