    Default Getting out

When I retired I had hoped to continue AT hikes. But age and health has skuppered that.

So I find myself with a closet of lightly used equipment that I'm not anxious to just throw in the trash. So what to do with 3 packs, two hammocks cooking gear, etc?
    Looking for viable suggestions.

There is a ‘Selling Used Gear’ forum on Whiteblaze. I’ve seen many people offer gear for sale.
You could also donate to the Scouts BSA.

My suggestion would be to tailor back your plans a bit and get out anyway. I'm almost 70 and in the same spot as you; or so I think I am. Between knee replacement and a heart issue I'm probably not going to do any true long distance hikes anymore but I can still get out for 3-4 day trips. I've also volunteered to work with the NY-NJ Trail Conference as the supervisor of a program that cares for lean-tos in the Catskill Mountains of NYS. Doing that has kept me hiking and gives me ample opportunities to get outside. Bottom line, you probably don't have to stop all trips. Just rethink your plans a bit and you should be OK. As for what to do with "extra" equipment, the suggestion of donating it to a local youth organization is a good one. You might also have a neighbor who has a child in need of a pack; or other items. In the end, I'm sure you'll find someone who would love to have your used gear.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

You might manage to find someone near you, who would not only like to use it, but might go on the shorter trips with you.
