Default Amicalola Approach as a refresher

So it has been about 6 years since I was on the trail and now over 5. I completed all of GA with my nephew who called it quits at Springer and could not do the hike down. Now I am think of doing the approach up to Springer and back in a weekend? Thoughts? Is it too much as a “refresher”?

A 17 + mile RT over a weekend over that terrain is within the capabilities of most Imo.

A year or two after my wife hiked the AT solo, she took me on a nostalgia trip to hike the approach trail, round trip. It was a cold Thanksgiving weekend trip to Georgia. I'd never been there before. I thought it was a fair day hike. We were both in our mid-40s, living in Colorado, and in above-average hiking condition. We were planning a PCT hike the next summer, so we were working up to the routine 20+ mile days needed out there.

Awesome, thanks for the information. I think we are going to do the approach up and then the Len Foote Hike Inn Trail back. Should be fun either way.

One thought, if towards the end of the day, Springer is to much, you can always stop at Black Gap Shelter. Also, hiking the Len Foote Inn trail may make it a bit easier. Enjoy.

Raid, Thanks for the advice. I did complete the hike last weekend. We stopped 6 miles in for the night, did Springer in the morning and took Len Foote back. Stopped 4.5 from the visitor center and hiked out on the last day. GREAT hike, horrible stairs!
