Default Hiking North From Bear Mountain, NY

After fifteen years of section hiking on the AT, tomorrow I start the final 800 mile section from Bear Mountain in New York to Mt Katahdin in Maine. Hoping.to finish in about two months. Really looking forward to starting my hike!

Excellent!! Enjoy what I'm sure will not be your final journey!

Great that you have around 400 miles of NY, CT, MA, and VT to get your trail legs before you hit NH and ME.
Enjoy it, great feeling as a section hiker when you finally get to finish at Katahdin.

Great view from Riga shelter in Conn. Water usually running from stream nearby.

If I remember right you are rewarded by a level walk along a river after that.

And the rocks around Canopus Lake will provide you with a taste of Pennsylvania in case you are missing the rocks.

Nice (haha!) climb from the Housatonic River up to Schaghticoke Mtn where NY gets in one last reminder that it ain't a gimmee!

Oh yeah! I did it with an old frame pack and nearly got pushed down it because the pack had a lower lip. Was hard.
