    Default Otter Creek Wilderness (WV)

    Hello,

I'll have a chance to visit Otter Creek Wilderness, WV sometime in May.

    Suggestions for a 4- or 5-day loop?

    Thanks!

I have not yet been there, but I suggest starting your research with this link: http://www.patc.net/hiking/destinations/ot_creek.html

Otter Creek is a beautiful area to hike. Just something to think about- the trail runs along the creek and flash flooding sometimes occurs if it rains a lot. I have been there in the summer months and had that problem, but it is a really nice hike.

Default Otter Creek - my experience

    Hi there,

I just returned from an early May hike at Otter Creek.

I have to admit I was REALLY disappointed.

The scenery was nothing to write home about. It was just a walk through a quiet, not very interesting forest.

So I shortened my hike from 5 days to 2 days.

Granted, it probably looks different there in the summer. I got there before the rhododendrons bloomed, before most of the trees in the upper elevations had started to green, and during a low-rain year when the creek was probably not as impressive as usual.

Still, I'm from the West coast and used to a lot more interesting types of scenery.

    Just my two cents.
