It’ll be cold. Probably not very busy. Probably wet, with either snow or rain. Or both. Depending on your interests, it could be fun or miserable.

Shenandoah National Park becomes the other 100 mile wilderness…

Keep in mind that the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive close anytime there is bad weather (the AT remains open). Both are currently closed due to an ice storm we had on December 15th. They have started removing all the downed trees but they have not set a date it will all be reopened. The trail maintainers cannot get in to access the damage and clean up their sections until the road opens. There is the possibility you will have a lot of blowdown’s.

Or at least two 40 mile wildernesses and a 25 miler.

As far as weather it's like a " box of chocolates " around here anymore it could be 70 degrees it could be zero!
As far as shelters and camping should be free roam.
As far as views oh yeah as there are no leaves

I've done it. I like it. You can see so far through the woods with the leaves gone, you see a lot more wildlife.

I did most of the Shenandoah in the winter - strong winds and long days to get to the crossings that weren’t closed by storm damage- watch the weather and plan accordingly

If you're going to the far northern stretch of VA, the Roller Coaster leading up to the Bear's Den might be a slog if it's very snowy and wet. But going into Harpers Ferry can be very beautiful in the winter.
