    Default Georgia - Mountain Crossings

Hey, I'm attempting to hike the first 53 miles of Georgia at the very end of this month. Mountain Crossings hostel says they are closed but my guide says it's open. Can you pitch a tent close to Mountain Crossings or need to go to Bull Gap? I don't think I'll have it in me to get to Whitley Gap Shelter. Thanks for any advice on this.

    Default Georgia - Mountain Crossings

There are loads of campsites in the section between mountain crossings and the cutoff for Whitley Gap shelter. Wolf Laurel top is one of my favs. Also, there are a couple good sites the mile before you get there.

I hiked through there at this same time last year. There are indeed a lot of nice spots, but mostly dry as I recall. Just bring your water and you'll have some beautiful spots.

    • If no bunks are available, or if you have a pet, there is free camping available just off of our property. It's 200 yards behind the building on the AT, just beyond the "Raven Cliffs Wilderness" sign. You are welcome to get water from the tap under the bay window on the south side of the shop.
    • Camping anywhere on our property is not permitted. This includes behind the hostel and on the lookout.
