Ferry logistics

Sorry in advance for the dumb question. I am a long-time section hiker with 188 miles to go (Stratton to Katahdin) and will be crossing the Kennebec (southbound) on my section in a few weeks.

Does the ferry depart at scheduled times during operating hours, or does it come and go whenever hikers arrive and are ready to cross?

Unless things have changed, they are there during the posted hours and go across the river when there are "customers" there can be backup in the AM as many folks started at the same place the night before.

Dates may changed, times are usually regular. However, this year has been wild for the ferry.
