One of the reasons I recently purchased the Mini2 was the text capability (would have been a big help on a recent trip) and the rescue insurance. I've seen the Dixie videos on pushing SOS for oneself. How did it work out using it for another?
For the OP, I went with the mini2 over the messenger largely because it had a compass and what appeared to be easier track-back capability (I still have to figure out how that works).
