Question: What is the most absorbent fabric towel---and yet after wringing out the fastest drying??? Like a sponge.

Thanks for the input. I'm ordering 2 towels from Rain Leaf as above and 2 from PackTowel.
I have an older PackTowl. I think mine was actually made in USA but checking Amazon it appears new ones are imported. I also have a couple others of unknown brand.
As far as I can tell (from back when I comparison shopped) they are all of similar composition/fabric so are of similar performance. Even my larger towel dries fairly easily in a light breeze or warm Sun.
For me, the thing to do is pick a size I like (large enough to wrap around waist for ample drying and also modest clothes changing). I am not aware that they advertise thickness but weight is often given. So thicker (more absorbent) is probably heavier.

I ordered large sizes like 72x40 and will cut them at home for backpacking (cheaper in the long run).
Good comparison micro fiber versus cotton:
I always thought Tipi patted himself gently with red mulberry leaves, gently squeezed touch-me-knots to produce small puffs of air that helped air dry the nether regions, followed by sassafras wipes to impart a citrus-y smell and slight sheen to the skin.
That's what I'm talking about!
A PCT Thru hiker I was watching one year suggested "Light Load" pack towels because they are so ultra lite

Shamwow! Made in Germany. This towel is hard to beat in the absorbency department.

Not sure if it’s been said but zpacks has the best towels
We've always used the microfiber towels sold by Rick Steves.
