Treking Poles

Hey,
I was at the local Wal-mart a few days ago and saw they had some SuiseGear Hiking Poles for $9.98 a peice. Anyone ever deal with this brand? I am just starting out, and I would want 2 of them. I tried them out at the store and they felt good, and have a spring in them too. Seemed like they were ok build.

Would any of you guys try these for $9.98 a peice? How can ya go wrong?

There has been some discussion of these poles here on Whiteblaze. Do a search on trekking poles and I'm certain you'll find it.

I've seen them too and for the price I don't see how you can go wrong.

These poles are mode by the same people who make the Swiss Army Knife (reputedly, although it could just be a licensing deal). I have a set, used them on one trip and had no problems. There is a guide outfit in Gatlinburg and they have about 20 sets that they use and he told me that the failures were few and far between.

I have been trying a pair since last fall. In the past, I have not used poles, so I have nothing to compare them to except no poles.

I have enough road miles on mine that I have worn out the rubber tips. I probably have 100 trail miles on them. Based on my experience, they are well worth the price.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to try a Leki pole out, but when I saw these for that price, I decided that I would try them instead.

Just what to share a revised opinion on these poles.
I had stated before to beware for the locking device broke rather quickly on mine. Tho excellent for my granddaughter...no problems.

So I want to say it was me...not the poles with the problem. Since my arms and hands at times go completely numb, I was unable to tighten up the poles correctly, and thought they had broken

I lost my $120 pair of poles which were REI Ascent Anti-Shock Compact Trekking Poles - Pair, and had heard of the SwissGear poles on this site. It took about 9 months for our Walmart in Wisconsin to get them in stock and I immediately bought a pair to try. I like have used them and had no problems with them. They do seem a bit heavier than my REI poles but overall I am happy with them.
