Default 40-mile Push / Maryland Challenge

Interesting read in the Washington Post on the MD push. Kind of lame they slept in a hotel that night, tho..

That's not much of a challenge. Any reasonably fit thru-hiker can do it.

Just to the left, heading south and not seen in the article photo, was a cow pasture with a bunch of longhorn steers.

I could be off, they may have been a little north of there. I have the date on the photos at home. Are those recent? There are longhorns heading south somewhere between Duncannon and Rt. 70 in MD. That curve in the trail looked very familiar, as I joked to a NOBO that I had riled up the cattle and he should be careful. He had come out of the trees as I was reaching the far end of the field. I could have gotten the field wrong though. I'll post the photos when I get home.

the photo in the washington post is the result of a recent relo (late '03/early '04)

but before the trail basically went through someone's driveway and a dirtroad...

my photos were from april 2005

i never saw cattle on the md part of the trail, but ive only been hiking since '03

It was supposed to be a lead-in for a barnyard humor not swamp humor .

I could easily be off, but, if your photo is to the left of the blaze in the article's picture, did you focus over the well traveled trail that's there? Even the second lower photo doesn't show trail.

I went through there less than 2 weeks ago.

come to think of it, i believe the relo takes you through 2 meadows.

one is where you see the house with the satellite dish (my photos)

the other one is in the one pictured in the wash. post. i never saw cattle there, but it would seem more possible than the area in my photos.

sorry about that.. glad we could clear it up

I lost track of time in 2003 but I think I might have beat you by a day or two.
