Default Maryland portion of the AT

    Anyone here living in Maryland?
In May I will have 3 weeks off and am thinking of nabbing the state of Maryland's AT portion....I would be driving up and am wondering about a safe place to leave me vehicle while I do the hike....any suggestions for a safe haven to leave my vehicle???
    Thanks in advance

    Default Harpers Ferry

You might ask the US Park Service at Harper's Ferry.

ATC has a very small parking area. So, I wouldn't plan of parking there.

That's a thought....of course I was hoping for a whiteblaze member that lives near the trail in Maryland and might offer to let me leave the vehicle there for a fee of course..I'm combining a sea kayak trip so would not want to get off the trail to find my kayak gone.....

The Park Service allows hikers to park a vehicle for up to 2 weeks in their visitors parking lot.

Simva... I live about an hour or so from Harper's Ferry... I can't offer you a parking space, but I can offer to store your kayak in my garage while you hike...

Simva, The AT portion in MD is about 42 miles long one way and looking at my maps there doesn't appear to be any huge climbs. You should easily be able to go there and back in two weeks IMHO. 84 miles divided by 14 days equals 6 miles a day.. and if you hike 10 miles per day you can basically hike a day take a day off!
May you have warm words on a cold evening,
a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.

There's a hostel just a few miles out of HF
in MD. Maybe they can accomodate your car.
