I bought one of the small cheap kits with the snake bite suction gizmo, band aids, that sort of stuff. I've been lucky so far and have not had to use any of it. But I always carry it just in case.

I've read conflicting opinions about the snake bite kit. Most have said it's useless, that it's better to just wrap it snuggly but not tight, and get to a trailhead asap.

As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting bit by a snake while just hiking. Even though it seems like everyone is seeing rattlesnakes.

It would be good to hear from someone who has had the misfortion of taken a hit for some first hand knowledge.
