Default New Hiking Film - Old Joy

A new film entitled Old Joy was reviewed VERY favorably today in the NY Times. It looks quite good. It opens in NYC today. Hiking appears to be a central component of the plot. Here is a link to the trailer - http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/oldjoy/.

Here is a link to the NY Tmes review - http://movies2.nytimes.com/2006/09/20/movies/20joy.html. Registration may be required in order to read the review.

Enjoy! I plan to see it in Nashville on November 17 or 18.

PS: The soundtrack features Yo La Tengo and sounds GREAT.

All it requires is Quicktime. Then again - you could download the trailer to your iPod, and watch it while you sip tea and eat crumpets and read the NY Times at that new coffee shop in Damascus. We'll turn you into a Yuppie yet!

I hate living in a culturally devoid town. Any film that would be considered "good" will never come here - Brokeback Mountain started about two weeks late and finally came because of public pressure on theaters.

    I miss the big city.
    So be it.

JP doesn't serve crumpets. Yet. *** is a crumpet anyway? As far as the trailer, I don't need to see it. I read the review. Sounds sissy.

Interesting trailer - though it doesn't give you much on the plot.

The way I read it from the review it's the story of two friends who drive out to the woods, get stoned and sit in a hot spring together. Oh, they also say a bunch of stuff that may or may not be important to the plot. I hope there's a chase scene and a shoot-out.

Is that because they're still playing Deliverance?

Doesn't sound like it has helicopter gunships or a car chase to me.

Brokeback Mountain was a film about SOMETHING.

From the trailer and review, this film seems to be about NOTHING. If I ever see it I hope to be proven wrong.

Then again, Seinfeld was one of TV's best comedies ever--and it was about nothing. Proudly so.

Doesn't going out into the woods tell you something about who you are? That seems to be the gist of this movie. To me anyway.

And y'all can keep your car chases and shoot outs. If I see a movie has them, I mark it "must miss." But that's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors.
