I know people have listed their best hiking tunes, but I did a couple searches and can't find it as a specific topic. Regardless, what's your opinion. Top 3 bands, top 5 song to rock the trail with?

i mostly walk...enjoying the sounds of NATURE!
that sounds weird to most hikers...but, since i'm a lowly section hiker & only spend 12 days to 3 weeks on the A.T. per year...i like it that way...
BUT, if i did carry my mp3 player....it would be blasting VAN MORRISON, DLEBERT MCCLINTON, BONNIE RAITT....etc.
One always pops into my head while hiking ,its an OLD Motowner (thats a Yankee for ya ) I forget who???? it goes somethin like ...
"I got 5 more miles to go
and my feet are hurtin oh so bad......
But I got to keep on walkin.....
Keep on talkin to myself" (my version....lol)
Once it gets in your head .....its there all day ...over and over ....
Peace
See ya at the Gathering!

Oh FREE PENDANTS FOR ALL FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT !
Check out my latest thread somewhere around here for info.
I'll admit it. My favorite trail tunes are any old songs that pop into my head and that I sing out loud myself, with no electronic gadgets involved. It's one of the great benefits of hiking out in the middle of nowhere where you are unlikely to run into very many people. It's also one reason why I sometimes like to hike alone. I wouldn't knowingly subject anyone to my singing voice .
And it occurs to me now that if I ever wanted to shed myself of unwanted company on the trail or in camp (ladies, if you are worried about pink blazers, take note) a few bars of "Werewolves of London" at the top of my lungs might just do the trick. It would probably scare off the bears, too.
Earlier this year on the Superior Hiking Trail, somewhere near Beaver Bay, a song popped into my head that our music teacher had us sing in elementary school, so I sang it over and over again for a good twenty minutes. Can't remember the title, hadn't thought about it in decades, but if you know it, sing along with me now:
Oh the deacon went down
To the cellar to pray
He fell asleep
And he stayed all day
Oh the deacon went down to the cellar to pray
He fell asleep and he stayed all day
I ain't gonna grieve my lord no more
How about Blues Traveler, "The Mountain Wins Again"
Seriously though, I like to listen to music in camp or during easy hiking.
Grateful Dead
Jay Nash(Did Southbounders Soundtrack)
Gin Blossoms
Josh Kelley
Great listening while lying around camp.
Walking Dead Bear
Formerly the Hiker Known as Almost There
Well I guess I'm the only bluegrass fan on this board, so I'll have to nominate "Rocky Road Blues" by Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys.
And the lyrics are written for the AT
"The road is rocky but it won't be rocky long.."
"...Well, I got those blues and I'm wearing out the soles of my shoes.."
Gotta love that mando/banjo/fiddle/guitar and bass!
