Default High Gear Alti Tech II -- Good Price. Good device?

I've been looking to buy one of these for a while. Normally it's $150 but I found the green one for $109

    http://skimaps.altrec.com/shop/detail/16544/

    (sale ends Nov 10th)

and the black one for $114.50

    http://www.thealtimeterstore.com/highgear.html

Anyone have anything bad (or good) to say about them before I buy?

Found a review of it at BGT. I've never used the product, so I can't comment.

These were on steepandcheep.com for about $65 a while back - I tried to jump on it, but while I was checking out they ran out and I lost. This is definitely on my Christmas list though.
    So be it.

    JoeHiker and hikerjohnd,

Highgear Alterra Watch - The watch with a built in fun-meter.
is on http://www.steepandcheap.com for the moment. 149 of them.
It looks like it is more feature rich than the one you were looking at and it is only $62.

Thanks refreeman but when i go to that link, all I can see is a camelback, not a watch. I can't see how to browse or anything. Can you tell me where to go to see this thing for that price?

I've been using the AltiTech II for a couple of years and love it. I haven't had any issues so far.

    JoeHiker,

Highgear Aerial Altimeter is on steepandcheap.com. $48.94
Don't confuse the Highgear product with the Highgear Alterra Watch that cost a little more. The Highgear Aerial Altimeter has most of the feature as the Highgear Alterra Watch, but not all of them. Check this link to campair them:

    JoeHiker,

I'd say don't buy the Highgear Aerial Altimeter ($48.94). When the Highgear Alterra Watch is on sale from SAC it costs $62.50. So for just a little more money you will get what you wanted. So you say, well when is The Highgear Alterra Watch gonna be on sale? Well I'm not sure, but I know it will go onsale this month. They have over 1600 in inventory, normally they just have 0 to 15.

    Good Luck,
    Refreeman

Thanks, I actually did manage to see that altimeter come and go on Steepandcheap before I saw these replies. Unfortunately I didn't buy any because I wanted a compass in whatever I bought as well.

But thanks for the heads up.

    JoeHiker,

The Highgear Alterra Watch is on sale from SAC, it costs $61.50. And its not that bright orange color, its color is gray. They have over 400 of them right now... however it is always a popular item..

    good luck

I got one of these. Just what I was looking for. A digital watch/compass/thermometer/barometer/altimeter.

    Got to love SAC.

Bagged one of these on S&C a few weeks ago $74 inc s/h works fine except for alarm which chimes way too low had it on for a week thought it was broken when I finally heard it. Alt needs to recalibrated daily. Worth the price your willing to pay.
