Default Low Gap TN (US 421) to Damascus VA

According to my Mapdana and Topo USA software it looks like this section of the AT is slightly under 16 miles. Elevations changes don't look too drastic according to the Topo USA software, other than the last drop into Damascus.

Can anyone provide input on approximately how many hours it might take to hike this section? Of course, I realize everyone hikes at a different pace, but assume moderate hiking abililty, moderate pace.

I'm wondering if a day-hike of it this weekend is feasible, considering the reduced daylight hours of November it seems a little chancy.

It is 14.8 miles. Fairly easy walking. You could do it in 6 hours comfortably.

I was just out on the trail in that very section and there were hunters all over the place. Some even camped at hwy 421. I saw expended shot gun shells on the trail and turned back when I heard a shot just over the hill as I was climbing the other side. So, be sure to wear the proper safety orange. I am wearing a orange hat and vest when I go out into the woods, even on the AT.
