How about Three Forks? The Northern Outdoor Resort treated us royally.
Monson is my favorite.
Most all of the towns were great. I worked near Damascus for two years and it breaks my heart to say that it was probably the least friendly of the towns I visited. The ones that really stood out are Hot Springs, Millinocket, Waynesboro (was awesome), and Duncannon.
That's the first time I EVER heard anyone speak so poorly of Damascus.

I don't have time to review that whole thread, but I'm tempted to agree with Lone Wolf on this one, especially since he knows more about goings on in Damascus than anyone on this board.
In my experience, hikers that have less than pleasant interactions with law enforcement people almost invariably bring this attention on themselves, and I suspect that hikers that had "problems" at The Place fit this description.
