NOBO 2007 Sightings

I'm here in Helen, GA resting an achy knee. Roger Dunton, aka Many Sleeps the GATC caretaker, told me that I was #765 that he's counted leaving Springer since he's been keeping track on February 23. I left April 22. He said about 60-70 left for Maine during the previous week. I was #538 to sign in the register in the Walasi-Yi Outfitters store.

In the past few days I've seen these thrus: Hawkeye, Wyoming, Frog, Jolly Green Giant, Cheese (formerly Freeloader's Revenge), Frog, Nitty Gritty Dirt Man, Ping, SAS, Cadillac, Jim, Tennis, The Gimp, and Hillel. There are several whose faces I can see in my head, but can't remember their names and I don't have my journal handy.

Supposed to be lovely weather for the next week or so.

My boys "Futs" and "Nucking" called and are headed into Erwin. Anybody who's there please keep an eye out for the boys from Maine....I'd like to get an opinon from someone else whether they are doing as well as they say they are.....It's a long walk home...

Oh..and it's possible that they may meet people who they are too embarrased to actually introduce themselves as Futs and Nucking (they spelled it out to me...couldn't actually say it...) They may be going simply by Ben and Nick. Give em a hug..pat on the back...something...from me!

Just checking in; Bfitz is back from Northern Virginia so we'll be heading back into the Park today, looking forward to getting back out there, as well as seeing Standing Bear Farm, Hot Springs, and Erwin again. Had a wonderful visit from Sgt. Rock and his whole family yesterday, which was great. All for now....if any of you guys are passing thru Gatlinburg anytime soon, the folks at the Happy Hiker and the Grand Prix have been great this year, as always.

I was out hiking this w/e between Rockfish Gap & Maupin Field Shelter and here are the thrus I saw:
Fri, Apr 27 near Wolfe Shelter:

The Traveler from ??

Fri, Apr 27 at Maupin Field Shelter (btw, I only hiked 16.8 miles from Rockfish to Maupin , 9.7 trail miles & 7.1 miles on BRP, arriving at 21:30):
Professor and BobSled from soth GA
Conquistador from Boston area
Scoops formerly known as MoonWalker from IN, journal
Trocar from PA, journal
Joe from Iowa, journal

They are all 20 somethings except Joe & The Traveler..

Also all of them left Springer late Feb or early March except Traveler who started Feb 9.

Also I met Just Jeff from WhiteBlaze at Maupin. And also there was a church group at maupin Friday nite with about 12 tents. They were loud.

Professor and BobSled hiked into Waynesboro on Sat, Apr 28.

Joe, Trocar & Conquistador hiked today, Apr 29 about 9 miles into the SNP and will be taking a zero on Monday at Trocar's dad's house in VA (near Danville)..

Scoops will be going at least to Blackrock Hut tonight and plans to be in Front Royal early in the day on Friday, May 4 to rent a car to drive to the ASU (in Boone, NC) graduation of his gf . He should be coming thru Damascus Friday afternoon.

Btw, the only 2 ultra-lighters were Joe & Trocar.

Look for these guys in PA around Trail Days, I believe that they are all coming back to Damascus.

Low Branch had hitched a ride from Iron Mountain to Clarence's Diner in Unicoi and put away $20 worth ($20 buys a lot of food at Clarences), and I gave him a ride back to the trail. He was carrying goodies for Kenni and her guy. Also saw Mountain Man and Hiker Nut at Cherry Gap Shelter earlier today, Sunday, April 29th, about 65 degrees and sunny.

I am here in Erwin with Buttercup and Montana Mac we lost Sir Privy Winks and Usual Suspect along the way. Suspect is ahead of us somewhere.

I am also looking for Mambo_Tango. I think she changed her trail name and we passed her in Hot Springs during Trail Fest.

If anyone has spotted these folks can you post here?

Also here that I have seen are August, Orange Moon, and Ginger Snap.

"Jigsaw" & i just returned from our annual section-hike & encountered quite a few "Earlybirds" thru-hikers entering Shenandoah NP...

No Joke, Bacon, Hike, Caterpillar, Dice, the Brain, Eleven, Matt & U-dog were a few of the names i recall.
