    From the ATC - Thru-Hikers' Companion Update...

    " Update: Lodging - Country Squire Motel- is closed, the owner, Betty Mangels, passed away in late December 2006."

    Havent been there, but still feel a loss of a hiker-friendly place.

    It's by Clarendon. Stayed there in 2003. Not the Ritz but Betty was a really nice lady. Other than Rutland, I think it's about the only place to stay in that area.

    Betty was a wonderful person. She put up with many ungrateful hikers and as far as I know never complained, even to me who she knew would understand.
