President's Day Hike

Howdy, I am planning on a section hike over President's Day weekend (16-19 Feb 07). I have a couple of questions:

1. Where is a good spot to hike near Sam's Gap? I am planning on hiking from there to somewhere near Erwin, so I need to set up a shuttle between the two points.

2. What is a good spot to park in Erwin or near the NOC?

3. Anything I should know about that section of the trail?

4. Any weather hints for that time of the year?
