    Default Must see Maryland

    Is there anything on or near the AT in Maryland that you would consider a "must see"? Bars, Blue Blazes, Cool Views, Monuments, etc. Anything to avoid in Maryland?
    I hope they show the part where they trade guns to the Indians for corn, and then the Indians shoot them and take the corn. - Bart Simpson

    Must See:

    Civil War Correspondent Memorial

    Washington Monument

    View from Weaverton Cliffs

    Annapolis Rocks

    Harpers Ferry

    Dahlgren Backpacker Campground ( just for the shower)

    Bon Pac's new Hostel

    There is lots of history, signs, stories along that stretch of trail and it isnt too hard, enjoy

    I agree. I was planning on blowing through MD in a day and a half. Took 4 days!

    A good list. Here are a few more attractions in MD on the AT:
    * White Rock Cliff
    * Black Rock Cliffs
    * High Rock
    * Civil War monuments on Reno Monument Rd.
    * Definitely spend a day or two in Harper's Ferry WV if possible. Visit the ATC. Stay at the Hilltop House Hotel. Awesome views!

    Maryland makes a wonderful leisurely 3-4 day hike on the AT. Relatively easy terrain, lots to see, decent shelters/capmsites, those blessed showers at Dahlgren and Harper's Ferry!
    A foon by any other name, is still a spork.

    If you don't camp at Weverton Cliffs (great place to camp but no water and it may be against the rules), stay at Ed Garvey shelter. Not only is the shelter itself nice but the eastern exposure gives you a rewarding sunrise and early morning warmth.

    I dont know if it is against the rules, but i have seen many a camper off the trail at Weaverton Cliffs. You can camel up at Ed Garvey but its a long way down and a long way back up from the water source, so get all you need while down there.

    What's the name of the "biker bar" just off the trail on the north side of I-70?
