Default The Appalachians by Maurice Brooks

Waiting to begin your hike or wishing Spring were already here? See if you can borrow a favorite book of mine at your local library and read it.

It was written by Maurice Brooks also known as Dr. Appalachia to his students at West Virginia University. Unfortunately, by the time I matriculated at WVU, he had retired. I did once meet him and speak with him briefly at his office he maintained at Percival Hall after his retirement.

His book is one of the classics about our beloved Appalachians, yet many newer A.T. enthusiasts have never even heard of it. I don't believe I've seen it recommended here.

Here's a link for you. Guess we missed that one! Better luck next time, eh?

So do you think the WhiteBlaze.net WV chapter will get together next fall to ride a Shay from Cass to Bald Knob, or is that talk just a bunch of coal dust aloft for someone else's benefit?

    Default Hey, eArThworm!

You do intend to include a copy of The Appalachians in the A.T. Museum's library, don't you?

It would be criminal if you didn't!

Surely, you can obtain a copy of The Appalachians by Maurice Brooks at WVU's Wise Library. [eye-roll for Mowgli16]

While I'm thinking of it, I should point out that doubtless someone will lead a wildflower walk at Core Arboreteum in Morgantown on Mother's Day. Anyone who doesn't go, will miss out on something good, but it won't be my fault for not telling you so.
