    Default Reporters journal

Just stumbled onto something others may want to read. A reporter for the Nashville newspaper has a series of articles about his hike. These ran periodically in the paper and can be accessed through Fred/Cathy's site. I have only started reading them. So far - great. Here is the link: http://www.fred.net/kathy/at/whatsnew.html

It's a good read. Was kinda disappointed in his last post. Seemed he was doggin the AT community a little bit.

Not really dogging the AT community, just the 'repeat offenders'. Oh well, let's see how he feels one or two years from now, when memories of the trail surface and a return to the happiness of thruhiking tempts him to replace all the hassles of life and work in East Tennessee with the beauty and camaradery of life on the trail.

I'm currently reading Gonzo's journal as well. It's interesting to read about the AT from 20 years ago and see how things have changed. Another interesting journal is called, "Then the Hail Came by George Steffanos. This one is also from 20 years ago.

    Default Old Trail Journals

I've been reading Ron & Linda Moak's journal of their 1977 SOBO thru hike. It's fascinating not just for how things have changed, but for how two people, hiking side-by-side, can see the same day of hiking so differently.

They also have a journal of their 1997 hike with their 13 y.o son, which I haven't started.

    Default Eli

I met Eli on the trail in Vermont in early July. He was a great guy, very pleasant to talk to, very funny, and a strong hiker.
