Default Booz2Go a powdered alcoholic drink has been invented

Yes, that’s right, powdered alcohol. I have heard it discussed many times around the fire and now it really exists. Dutch students have developed what might be the ultimate hiking drink - a powdered alcohol beverage touted to be sold soon for €1-€1.50 ($1.35 to $2 US) for one 20-gram packet. This lime-colored and flavored drink with just three percent alcohol content might be ideal for those who want a drink but not the weight. What do you think? See CNN article and no I don't think its yet for sale commercially. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/06/06/powdered.booze.reut/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

Merciful heavens. From the article, it sounds like the developers deliberately made the mixture weak to be able to sell it to minors in their country. This leads me to wonder if the mix could modified to make a stronger mixture.

Such a product would likely eliminate overcrowding on the trail as I predict many, many more injuries of a far more serious nature will occur as intoxicated and hungover hikers meander down the trail. It would also be yet another reason to forego shelters.

Looks like it's time for the Dutch to ammend the law to include powdered alchohol. This idea's equivalent to selling a Meth lab kit with all the ingredients. Hey, it's not Meth yet!

And why would you market it to kids under age 16? They're already goofy enough without legal alchohol.

This type of product has been on the market in Germany since at least 2004: http://www.wz-newsline.de/sro.php?redid=67450 .

    Default Interesting...

article. The 4.8% sounds better. Also interesting that the process is protected by a US patent...

    Default Obviously...

The alcohol has been absorbed into a solid material. Its bulk and mass are all still there. You'd be better off WRT bulk and weight just carrying a bottle of Everclear, and adding it to drinks you reconstitute from dry. I recommend dehydrated orange juice for the mixer, if you can find it.
