It's a C & O bicycle trip, not a hike, and miles from the section that the A.T. uses.
Anyway, the plan is to camp at Swain’s Lock campsite, the place where my C & O trip last year left off, arriving on Friday night so as to get an early start on Saturday morning. This will facilitate the 33 mile round trip to Washington, DC and back.
The major points of interest, other than Swain’s Lock itself, are Great Falls and the Great Falls Tavern, Mather Gorge (local rock climbing area), Carderock Recreational Area…and of course, Washington DC itself.
This is 16.6 miles each way on an unpaved, almost flat path, for a total of 33.2 miles round trip.
Anyone interested?
