    Default AT Views in NJ...

There are several outstanding locations views off the AT in NJ. One personal fav of mine is Sunrise Mt. at dawn (or pretty much anytime on a clear day). Also several miles farther NB there is the lookout platform and Monument @ High Point State Park. You can see some spectacular vews of the Delaware River as well as for miles and miles into NY, NJ, and PA. Enjoy, and Happy trails!

I agree, I don't remember names too well, but I was surprised at how scenic the state of NJ is, which was in stark contrast to all the "arm-pit of the nation" remarks I've heard about NJ.

Another example of why to be skeptical of mass-hype.

Do you mean Cafish Firetower and RattleSnake Mountain?
There are spectacular views from Rattlesnake. To the SW is Big Pocono Mtn and to the West is The Pocono Plateau as it head down towards Scranton.
To the NNW are the Catskills that you can see on a clear day.

Over the years I quoted many people who claimed that if some regulation or law were not adopted Maine would "become just like New Jersey."

When I walked through in 1993, I felt like I should apologize.

However, the claims were not all mass-hype. The through roads Maine people take to get to southern parts pass through some pretty ugly portions of New Jersey. The trail, however, was surprisingly pretty and wild.

My first section hike was DWG to Unionville as a 15-yo in 1973. I still fondly remember Sunfish Pond, Catfish fire tower, Culver Lake, Sunrise Mountain, and High Point Monument. Several years ago I had the opportunity to finish off the long-standing gap in my coverage from Unionville to Warwick Turnpike, and had a lovely early breakfast atop Pinwheel Vista on a pretty morning.

    Kerosene,
I think I ran into you in 2003 or 2004 at Brinks Road Shelter. I belive you were there with another hiker and pointed out the bear box that had some mauling signs on it. (I was dayhiking). Would you be that same Kerosene?

New Jersey was a very pleasant surprise. Sunfish Pond with mountain laurels in full blook was quite nice. The views from the ridges were also good as well.

Many people felt the same way.

Like many people, my vision of NJ is along the turnpike. Chemical wasteland!

The AT goes through a very rural and pleasing area.

    Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure that would have been me, although I think it was at the Wawayanda Shelter when I was out for a day hike after work. I've only heard of one other "Kerosene" who lives in Kentucky I think but isn't a regular AT hiker, and there's a "Kerosene Charlie" who joined WhiteBlaze in 2005 but only posted 8 times.
