Jetboil breakthrough! for me at least.

I took my regular ol Jetboil and sat it on top of a Tealight candle cup with an oz of denatured alcohol lin it and lit it up. Boiled just fine and gave me a reason to keep using the jetboil. It worked great as a wind screen.

Simple but useful, tealight cups cost near nothing and weigh even less.

it did help and the wind was kicking up in my back yard. I figured it would put the flame out but it was just enough space. I cruched a few tins from the tealights and threw them in my jet boil for the next trip.

Took empty tealight candle filled it, lit and boiled 2 cups of water, there was enough room and it did not burn my cozy! I was about to leave the jet boil and take my pocketrocket with a regular pot so I could use other means to boil water. Now the jet boil wins! no joke the jet boil burner and the pocket rocket feel about the same weight in your hand. i have a pot clamp in case I wanna use a fire with the jet boil mug(-the cozy). I know it will stink it up and get it all dirty...that's the life of MY jetboil lol

That's not bad. The standard tea light tin holds about a half ounce. I'm kinda surprised it wasn't crunched up some from the weight of the pot and water.

Bill Fornshell (Gardenville) has. If I recall correctly he wasn't thrilled, but don't quote me on that. He's one of the best MYOG talents around and if he didn't like it, it must be tough to duplicate.

I've had a go at it.

Not worth posting the results so far.

Update- This is how I ended up doing it in the end and plan on doing it. I use three tea light cups(regular) spaced out in a triangle just under the jet boil and fill each 3/4 of the way = total of 3/4 of an oz maybe a little more. This boiled 2 cups and held the weight with out having to re-fill the cups. With one fitting under the heat exchanger I had to re-fill twice to get a boil. never took more than an oz though.

i'll take three with me maybe a few extra tealights and a beer can(full of course), drink the beer make a door in can, use tealights as a lantern once tealights are used up I have extra stoves.

And this is an improvement over using a canister how?

hmmm ok.... Just in case I can't get a canister, run out or whatever I like for my Gear to be able to work no matter what. It is an improvement when your canister is empty with no new ones in site.

Made a half-penny stove (http://www.csun.edu/~mjurey/halfpenny.html) today out of two V8 cans and it works great with the jetboil pot. Simple to make and it works as advertised. Little over half an ounce to boil two cups. By using this setup you could cut some weight for a weekend trip if taking about 4 ounces of alcohol. Stove weighs practically nothing. Used a wind screen made from flashing and a pot stand made from hardwear cloth. Stove stores easily in circle inside of heat exchanger coils. Windscreen, pot stand and bottle of alcohol store easily inside of jetboil pot. There are lighter setups but if you want to use the jetboil pot for hiking without the jetboil burner and canister (weekend trip etc) then this little stove works well.

Burners fine. Just experimenting a little for a backup possibility (as chiefdaddy did) or a little lighter setup for short hikes. I like the jetboil just as it is purchased and that is the way that I use it.
