    Exclamation NO Water!!

Hello fellow hikers! I'm trying to get the word out about a the section of AT going from NOC to Stecoah Gap and possibly on to Fontana Dam. There is absolutely NO water between Nantahala outdoor center and Stecoah Gap. All sources are very dry with not even a puddle to help. There is a severe drought in this region right now. We hiked from NOC to Stecoah on 9-19-07 to 9-20-07 and found now relief in the form of H2O. The journal at Sassafras shelter didn't offer any hope for past Stecoah either. We felt we had to get the word out because this can be a pretty rough section without water, especially NOBOn. They have been calling for showers and storms but I don't know how much that would help. Good Luck!

PS. watch for HUGE bees nests along the stretch also!!

Yup. Too little water, no shortage of bees. Pretty much my experience this summer as well.
