Default What do you guys make of this?

I just ran across this online:
    http://www.extremeoutfitters.us/inde...ROD&ProdID=759

It doesn't look like something that's ever been discussed on any backpacking forums, and honestly, my first reaction is just to laugh. It just seems like this can't quite be real. It just seems so gimmicky. I'm not sure if it's the fact that you can only find it on the websites for these hunting/military-type stores, or what. I love the fact that below the description, there's a "Related Products" section that advertises a Big Agnes Sleeping Pad that inexplicably sports a handgun. What does a gun have to do with a sleeping pad? I don't know, the whole thing is funny to me. But at the same time, it's 27 ounces for a 23 degree F bag, or so it says, plus it says it comes with mosquito netting and it's only $120. But like I said, I find it nearly impossible to take this seriously. But I thought that I could maybe be the first to ask the backpacking community about this and perhaps stimulate some humorous or serious discussion. I know there's some former military guys on here, maybe they've heard of it. What do you guys think?

If you want a light synthetic bag that is accurately rated to 40F, I reccomend the Exped Wallcreeper PL (primaloft)

What do we make of it?

Well, you could make a hat, a broach, a pterodactyl.

I think the gun is to show scale.

I don't think the gun is included with the purchase -- it's just to show the relative size of the unit when rolled.

Yeah, I mean I wouldn't consider buying it, as you could probably tell. I'm in the market for a Western Mountaineering bag. I just thought this was funny and wanted to get some whiteblaze.net thoughts.

The sleeping bag doesn't strike me as a bargain. The ad calls it 27 ounces. But the "details" say 900 grams, which is 32 ounces with stuff sack. The minus 5 degrees C is obviously meant to confuse, as does all the switching of units from grams to ounces and centigrade to Fahrenheit.

I bought a similar bag at an LL Bean outlet last summer for about the same price.

I think the gun is supposed to be used to shoot the sleeping pad if you don't get a good night's sleep. Or at least threaten to shoot the sleeping pad, if it doesn't perform as promised. Of course, this could be sort of a "make my day" type sleeping pad, but you'll never know until you really get into it... just my thoughts... Jane

You may be right..No one Blackwater has been hired to protect has ever been killed..That`s the best record out there
Sometimes you can't hear them talk..Other times you can.

If these are the guys I think they are, they've been around for a while. They cater to the military/law enforcement trade, who apparently don't know that there are other sources for outdoor equipment that are better than this company. I believe that there are actually a dozen or so similar companies just like this one.

That is true but they've gotten a hell of a lot of their own people killed.

Actually I was trying to point out that thinking in two dimensions is limited, as opposed to say, three dimensions. To which I'd add to your thought, they've also helped escort many other human beings from this earth who weren't 'there own' and who weren't the 'enemy.'
