    Default Solo Tent Help

I'm thinking about replacing my North Face Canyonlands solo tent.I've looked at MSR,Marmot,Mountain Hardware,Big Agnes,REI,Exped & Sierra Designs. It's a tough choice, but i came across Big Sky International and i like the Evolution 1P.It's close to the MSR Hubba, but lighter.Anyone have any experience with these tents?

    And this thread

I would suggest looking at the Six Moon Design lunar solo if you absolutely want a tent. If you might consider a floored tarp-tent - the old Brawny with an added floor and bugnetting is now being made by AntiGravityGear

I thought they might be too good to be true.I never go by what they write on their web sites,i'd rather hear what people have to say that have put it to the test. It's a shame,it was a nice looking shelter.

Frolicking Dinosaurs, thanks for the tip on the AAG .Looks worthy

Another vote for the Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo...but also check out Henry Shires' Tarp Tents.

not really one of your alternatives, but the Black Diamond lightweights are excellent. The tents don't breathe so condensation is an issue, but add a piece of Tyvek for the floor and you're set.

I have one of the Big Sky tents, and it's a great tent. If they have the tent in stock, and you like the layout, go for it. I waited quite a while for mine, even longer than I waited for my Wanderlust Nomad242. But it's a nice tent and I'm glad I have it.

    Default Single Person Tent

For half of my thru-hike I used a Eureka Solitaire. It weighs just under 3 lbs. Not much room inside but it does the job. Slept in it for about 40 nights.

Gossamer Gear is coming out with/developing a new ultralite solo tent...email Grant and ask WHEN?
I bought their Spinnshelter as I hike not in bug season.

I'll second the vote for Henry Shires - I have an older model Squall, love it. Checked out another hiker's Rainbow, nice and roomy for one, can squeeze two, it's on my xmas list. I may even go for the double rainbow, still under 3#, huge, and loads of ventilation.

I enthusiastically endorse Henry Shires Tarptent. It's a great product, but moreover, the owner of the company is the finest kind.

If you're looking for a more traditional tent, the SD Clip Flashlight has passed the test of time, and at $125, it's a great value.

I don't think so. A couple of years ago I read several posts at Backpacker.com about people ordering them and never getting them. One person speculated that the manufacturer just closed up and left town. I haven't heard a word about them since. They were a really nice design, but some of the newer designs outdo them. I, personally would get a Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo E for my only solo tent if I enjoyed sleeping on the ground. The design is very practical.

Another enthusiastic endorsement for the Shires tarptents. I couldn't ask for a better shelter.
