Default nylon webbing straps (tree huggers)

Hi, just wondering how necessary these nylon tree huggers are on the Appalchian Trail for the Hennessy Hammock? I was looking to save a little weight. Thanks,

The tree huggers really work to make your hammock secure. Its the peace of mind you have when you move around in your hammock.
And it does less damage to a tree. I know some can use the rope without damage but can you do it every time like when the bark is soaking wet from several days of rain?
    When the Trail calls you,
    its not on your cellphone!
