    Default St Patrick's Day Start

This is a thread for those leaving Springer with the luck of the Irish.

Looking for possible hiking partners since none of my lame friends have the intestinal fortitude for an attempt at greatness. Best of luck class of 08.

Here's an insight for you: Friends don't necessarily make good hiking partners, and the best hiking partners are not necessarily people who would ordinarily be your friends.

    Have a great hike!

I started both my '06 thru and my '07 section/training for the PCT the day after St. Patrick's day. I hope to start my '08 section/training for the CDT on the day after St. Patrick's day as well.

I would never believe that unless I experienced it this year. I am the tall lean military type. This year I met up with and hiked with a 50 year old retired cop, a college student tech geek, a real quiet mouse type of person, and a guy with 20 piercings in his face. Some of the best company I ever had.

Completely true. I find the best hiking partners are the ones you haven't yet met. Found lots of compatible people to hike with on the AT.

Started the PCT with one of my best buds from home. We made it some 1800 miles before splitting, and both finished, but seperately. We about KILLED each other out there. We hang out now and joke about wanting to kill each other. We got on each others nerves terribly! Something to think about
Anything's within walking distance if you've got the time.

My hiking companion for most of my section hike of the wilderness this summer was a 55(?) year old, great company.

So true. It's loads of fun to run into some very unlikely person, and then spend anything from a couple of hours to a month or more getting to know them. Part of the entertainment is the way we surprise each other by totally contradicting each other's assumptions about who we are, based on appearance.
