Fellow White Blazers,
My name is Jake Mitchell a.k.a. Two By. I am in the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club. The ATC, TEHCC, SMHC, a former Tennessee state senator, the famous 'Model T' and others are initializing a project to develop an AT license plate program for Tennessee.
What is going on right now?
Currently, we are working on drafting the legislation so that it can be submitted to the Tennessee state senate when it reconvenes in early January. We are contacting other state senators and representatives to gain additional support for the bill. Graphic design is also underway and the final three options will most likely be shared when they become available. It is very possible that White Blazers will have the ability to vote via polling for their favorite.
What is it going to take for this thing to get going?
The project team must submit a bill (one page or less) and 3 design options to the Tennessee state senate for approval. Along with this, 1000 people must commit to purchasing a plate.
What happens with the money?
Much like the NC plate, the profits will go to the ATC for use with trail projects and anyone buying a plate will most likely receive a one year membership in the ATC.
Where do I sign up?
The project team is collecting names of people interested in purchasing a plate. To sign up, please send an email to Jake Mitchell (TEHCC) or Leanna Joyner (ATC) with your name, phone number(s), address and email. The steps necessary for finalizing your commitment (purchasing the plate) will be communicated when that time comes.
What else can I do to help?
Drum up support! Talk to your friends and pass along the info. The more names the merrier.
What happens next?
The next steps are for the project team to get the legislation and design options finished. Info will be passed along when it comes available.
Thank you so much for your interest. Happy hiking!
