perhaps the methane?
If it were a closed system maybe. Too much venting around the privvies to collect enough methane to ignite.
How about if the venting was somehow all clogged up?

Ummmm. . .huh??
I don't think it'd do much, if anything. Even if the vent were to somehow clog, mysteriously or not, there's still this big hole at the top called the seat and I don't think enough methane would build up to make anything go boom.

The big hole at the top is the vent I was referring to and I've yet to see a privy that doesn't have one.
this sounds like a job for the Myth-Busters.....
They'd figure out what Wolf said, that the match would go out. Then they'd get bored and pour gasoline in it just to see an explosion.
