Good luck Sgt. Rock, this is a deployment you can actually enjoy.
Dixi, hang in there and I hope all goes well for you on the home front. You are a super lady. Nice meeting you last year. ed bell

That's my dog, Echo. He's a fine young dog.
I agree. I'm a fan of The Rock too. Here my first jibberish post, a song.
I met Rock in the land of twenty mile
We hiked to the barren ground at ninty five
Next morn we got on that ridge and hiked all day
Then headed down to where the dragons play
Rock's GPS sure came in handy
I thought we were goners, all cold and clammy.
Play us a song ol' Rock man you.
Play us a song you hoopy do.
(No, I don't know what a hoopy do is)

Have you thrown out the itinerary yet Rock ? Best of health and don't overdo it.

In March of 2006, in a campsite, just a little north of Neel Gap, I started a fire because it was soooo DAMN COLD. How cold was it? It was so cold I couldn't even feel the heat of the fire, I had to put my hands right next to the flame (almost touching) to feel the slightest warmth; it was accompanied by a wind that would blow right through you. All I could do was crawl in mysleeping bag, with all my clothes on, and try and survive the night.
Go Sgt. Rock! Do it!
My guess is that he is staying at Bryson Gap tonight. Nice campsite between a couple of tall dicks...that would be Big John Dick Mtn. and Little John Dick Mtn. Sleep well and keep warm.
True, this is why I live in Florida ; but I also know it was COLD COLD COLD, because in the mornings, for the first couple weeks my water containers were frozen and a thick coat of frozen condensation was all over the inside of my tent.
That's why I would never start this early, Rock will have to put up with that for some time.
I suspect by the 3rd month of Rock's thru-hike people will stop pontificating about the frequency of his bowel movements. Either that, or they'll be betting on them
