was at Kincora today picking up Stumpknocker and Bob told us that Ron (Van Go) of Abby's Place had passed away. He's been on and around the AT for 20 years or so. Great guy. he'll be missed. Just wanted to let folks know that knew him well.

I hope he really enjoyed his last couple of years. I know he was having fun with the hikers that happened by there. I met Scotty and Van Go my first Trail Days in 97... He was an interesting man to talk to.
I just spoke to a friend of his that was worried because he hadn't heard from him in a while. I will let him know the news.
Where is abby's place? Guess I missed out.
My condolences to their friends and family.
Disclaimer: I didn't mean that......I realy love you all.
That is very very very sad to hear. I was freezing once and he showed up out of no where and helped me out. Like Miss Tilly this is another great loss.
Its up in Buck Mountain area north of 19E. The blue blaze to Abby's Place is roughly half way in between Bitter End USFS 293 and Walnut Mountain Road USFS 50.
Heard some good stories from Bob about Ron. Sorry to never have met him.
Just saw the posting on the ATC website. Unforunately, Abby's Place will be closed for the season.

Hostel, restaurant, something else? I've never heard of it.
Hostel Its just south of the climb up the White Rocks. They just opened their blue blaze recently. I believe you had to jump off at Bitter End or Walnut Mtn Road to get to it.

Just stayed there 2 weeks ago. Scotty was busy putting a roof on the 2nd floor of the Bunkhouse. Pretty decent place, but then again it was my 1st hostel.
