Any NOBOers left in Georgia? I am sectioning from Unicoi to Dicks Creek end of this coming week. Wondering if I will be all alone or if there will be some NOBOers flying by my slow a$$.

Leap is in Kent, CT now. Looking like he'll finish on schedule! There are a few others ahead of him still. Trek? And I don't know who else.
I hope he makes it. If anyone else sees him please post.

Will Trek be passed again in the homestretch?
Who will be the first northbounder to finish this year?
    Leap or Trek?
Stay tuned as the drama unfolds.

Hahahaha - yeah, that makes me smile. The whole first to finish thing... I just don't get it

Don H - I can keep you posted... I'm his girlfriend, so I should know! He'll definitely finish. He's determined - numb feet, blisters, and all. I might get a chance to hike with him in NH in two weeks. I hope.

(And just in case... I should clarify that Leap has no interest in who finishes first - he just has a wedding to attend/a deadline to start biking across the country in June!)

    Skinny,
Thanks, he seems like a guy with a good heart and boy can he eat! Do you want to plug the charity coast to coast bike ride he's doing after his hike? I tried to find the website but wasn't sure which ride it was.

No, thank you, for feeding him! And yes, he is a great guy (although I'm biased)... and he has quite a healthy appetite!

    Sure, it's: www.coast2coastcycle.org

I believe I heard a heard a vague plan about averaging 100 miles a day... but you'll have to check back once they start to see how that goes. Knowing him, I wouldn't doubt it, though!

Anyway, 100% of the money that is raised is going to the Children's Hunger Fund. Which is a great charity that is particularly relevant now, in light of the cost of rice almost doubling for poorer countries within the past few weeks, not to mention recent food riots, protests, and shortages.

Please feel free to check it out.

Well I am horrible with names in just passing and if I don't write them down, I just forget them anyway. But FYI. I met a few on my section hike this week. So there are still some NOBOs in Georgia. First crew was a couple that stayed with me at Sassafras Gap Thursday night. The lady was suffering from bad knees so they were getting late starts and only making 10 or 11 miles a day. They had been out 9 days I think they said. I never saw them again yesterday and they said they were pulling off at Cloud 9 due to the thunderstorms due in today. Another NOBOer passed me just north of Kelly Knob, very young guy, I saw him hitching a ride into Hiawassee at Dicks Creek yesterday just after lunch. Then I rode into Cloud 9 myself with a brother/sister duo yesterday. The sister was calling her brother Stalker because he hiked so close to her. He said their dad told him to look out for her. She told me her trail name, but I forgot it. Then there was a nice guy from Boston at Cloud 9 with his dog. He is a newbie hiker and just decided he wanted to do the trail. I think he said he had been dubbed snakegripper because he had caught some sort of snake and was cooking it for supper on night on the trail.

Generally speaking, how many hikers are in the shelters this time of year?

I didn't stay in any shelters, but I understand there were like 15 or 16 people at Tray Thursday night. Don't know how many stayed in the shelter though.

I talked to CheezeWhiz and tells me that he and Keystone met a northbounder near Delaware Water Gap last week! She better slow down. We still have a few feet of snow in our Mountains

Heck there are NoBos that are already into Ct and possibly into Mass by now with the type of miles they have been doing.
