Well, I just may be available. Need to break in some new boots some, before then. Just had to bail out of a 4 day trip because of the old ones. Let me check and I'll let you know on the 10th, at dinner.

David and I are in the planning stages for that weekend. A friend is setting up a trip to do a section of the Foothills Trail that I haven't hiked yet, but also planning low miles.

The thing is, I really need to be covering some ground to prepare for hiking with a couple of young folks in Glacier in June. A leisurely Mem. Day stroll is probably not what I should be doing to get ready to hit the CDT with two spring chickens.
    If not NOW, then WHEN?

    Sounds like a plan.

Uh, Skids, I think we've just been dissed.

Marta, for the record, there's more to this than a leisurely stroll. Sometimes we kick it up a notch and stumble a little, so there.

Yeah, there's the resting that has to take place between the strolling.

Marta, you could just take two laps to our one-you know-for training purposes.

I fell victim to the hiking bug recently, and I've come to accept the condition. Some say it can be acute or chronic - I hope it's both. My first jaunt in the woods a couple of weeks ago for a few days in north GA was top shelf, and I'm looking forward to more (a week in July!). Like some others reading this thread I've muttered, 'dang it I can't go because', so I hope to see another notice for a future date. Joining in spirit...

    Default Carpoolin'

Two Speed, I wasn't sure if I was still riding with you if I go. Please let me know. I was thinking about maybe driving to Franklin ad getting a ride to Deep Gap, but that's alot of scratch.
Ghosthiker, are you going with Two Speed?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there'll be another trip. Might be in the fall before we do this particular one, though. Skids and I do the Coosa Backcountry more often, so you may want to consider one of those trips in the meantime.

Okay, that explains the PM; sorry, been at my brother's helping him with a project and haven't been keeping track today. SD, if you come to the WB dinner at Nik's we can work out the details then.

Skids, looks like we're getting a pretty good crowd. I think we may want to do a head count a couple of days before the weekend.

If my deal in Augusta falls through, I might want to join. Assuming I could ride with Skids or somebody? This is starting to sound exciting!

Well, I live in Canton and he is in Marietta, I think. I was just offering another option after Two Speed offered his truck with his dog. I just figured I'd offer my Cherokee and his dog was welcome, too. That way it'd three of us in one vehicle. We'll work it out before we leave.

I'm pretty much good with anything that involves suspending the one mile shelter drinking radius.

As long as we substitute a rule of not camping within a mile of a shelter we're good to go. I know a holy man from another thread that can give us dispensation if we need it.

I did a similar hike and somehow managed to get off the Kimsey Creek trail and ended up on the forest road about 3 miles north of Deep Gap. I think I turned that into a 27 mile day.

    Easy day hike.

I envy you guys. This is one of my favorite areas. In fact, probably MY favorite, within a short distance of Atlanta. Late May and Early June is particularly spectacular with the rhododendron and native azaleas in bloom.

If you have any time to kill a short side trip over to Pickens Nose is a nice add-on.

Added bonus is the ability to just use one car and do a full loop in and out of S.I. Campground. Have fun and give us a trip report !

Best way to deal with that envy thing would be to come on the hike.
