"A few days OFF" Ok, I don't care who you are, that's funny.

I'm thinking that is one place on the trail where you can get ALL of your clothes clean at the same time, AND even out your hiker tan just a bit. Just be careful you don't burn your tush

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

I see from the website that some weekday rooms are just $45 (for 2 people). Seems like a bargain.

    30 X 60 pool. Laundry on site.

2 Professional volleyball courts and a nightclub.

OK, I know this is an OLD thread, sorry, I just got to thinking about it:

Just wondering if there are any other places within a few miles of the AT like Sunny Rest?

I did a search as best I could, the closest one I could find was a 2 hour round trip by Highway. As a hiker I don't think I could afford a 4 hr cab or shuttle ride (61 miles one way at about $2.00 a mile, um NO!), even IF I could get one.

Don't know if I would ever stop there,,, likely I would / could, but I got to thinking that the "wash all of your clothes" option would be great! And the week day camping fees seem semi reasonable if Sunny Rest is a good example.
I know you need a towel, but I bet Palmerton (or most any other town) has a "Dollar store", & last week Dollar General had 2 for $3.

This place is 12 miles from Amicalola Falls State Park (approach trail):

    http://www.paradisevalleyclub.com/about-us

They offer pig roasts, bonfires, and nude hikes.

Don't look now, here comes Billville....

They also have an annual 5k race. I think that would hurt.

Default Another "Resort" near sunny rest.

I found this place, haven't been yet, but they list the AT on their web site, (http://sites.google.com/site/pabeechwood/) so I contacted them & asked for directions, ride availability & about laundry facilities. There is there response.

    >Thanks for your comments. I can elaborate:
To get to Beechwood from the AT, you will leave the trail at the Ashfield Rd - Lehigh Furnace Gap (40.769596, 75.69455) parking area [This is located between the Bake Oven Knob (40.7541051506, 75.7273867889) camping area and the George W Outerbridge (40.782489, 75.61831)camping area]. Follow Blue Mountain road North from the parking area, down off the mountain. After the road becomes paved, you will pass the Ashfield post office, a playground, and you'll come to a convenience store at the intersection of Rt 895. Continue across 895 onto Dinkey Church Rd. Bare left onto Summer Mountain Rd. and left again onto Troxell Rd. (all roads are paved). At the stop sign, turn left onto Mahoning Mountain Rd. Go past two houses and turn left on the dirt road at the Beechwood sign. Follow to the bottom of the hill, pick up the phone and buzz.

We can't promise a ride, but you can try calling an hour or two before you get to the post office or convenience store to see if anyone is available. Those locations would be the best spots to meet, but they are less than 2.5 miles from camp.

We have lots of trees for Hammocks, including a great many of them aside of a nice quiet bubbling brook.

We do not have any laundry facilities on the grounds due to waste water restrictions. Unfortunately there are no laundry facilities between Beechwood and the AT. There is a coin op laundry (Lehighton Coin Laundry & Dry) 2.1 miles NE of camp.<

By my GPS following the above directions, it's 4.5 miles to the gate from the gap.

onto Dinkey Church Rd. Bare left
    How perfect is that?

The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.
You never know which one is talking.
