    Default SOBO Mid-July

    Heading SOBO July 17th.

Hope to see some other SOBO's out there but looks like I'll have to walk pretty fast for that to happen.

    Trail name: (undecided)
    Direction: Sobo
    Estimated Start date: August 22
Approach trail: don't know what this means

I'm making an attempt at becoming a pro triathlete so missing a triathlon season to hike is just not gonna happen. Hiking in the fall and early winter is my only option. I hate hearing people tell me I can't do it but I'd love to get a lot of help and advice so I can complete a winter thru-hike confidently and safely.

This is awesome news! Way to go, Kayak Karl! You're going SOBO from Katahdin on Aug 10th? I'll definitely cross paths with you out there... maybe around NH or VT? That's so cool.

    Safe travels,

Does anyone have any thoughts as far as attempting a thru-hike alone? I have never hiked the AT before...

I had one of the most awesome-est experiences doing a thru hike in 2009. The people on the trail made it wonderful. I have so many new friends now.
Thanks WhiteBlaze for getting people together before, during and off the trail. And thanks for the ride in Maine!

I think you want to post that in the thru hiker registry- this is what people used to post before they're hikes. You want to be in the "2,000 mile alumni" (I think that's the new thru hike listing)

If your looking for information on the thru, checkout "Loon"s journal on Trail Journals. One of the best I have read from last year. Filled, in the last few posts, with excellent list that cover a variety of topics concerning a through hike.

I agree with traildust. Loon's journal is one of my favorites. I've never met her, but I believe she must one of the most organized people on the trail. And, a great writer as well.

    Default 2009 Thru Hike Registry

Been watching a few YT videos of people thru hiking the AT this year. Got me thinking of what stove I would carry if I ever did a thru hike. What would you carry and why?
