May he rest in peace. Right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

By the way, what the heck is on that platter circling the deceased turkey? It looks like meatballs.

    Spirit Wind,
You got the most incredible turkey pic I've ever seen here, I really wish I could get a pic like that, they just won't hold still for me. http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/...imageuser=2785

With pepperspray, you kill two birds with one stone...season it while you put it out of its misery.

Wow! My husband was running along Creek Road in the Pennypack Trust just yesterday when he was chased by a female turkey. That's still in the general NE Philly/suburbs area. The turkey that chased him had some chicks just off the trail, so I'd say she was exhibiting a reasonable response. Hubby, not an outdoor guy, was very upset about the "attack", as he called it. I just laughed at him. I can't wait to show him this article.

I wasn't chased by a turkey, but a little over a week ago (a little north of Daleville) I had a turkey freak-out as I was walking south. Never seen one do that; must have been chicks nearby. He kept circling me and cackling. Could not get a good pic, because he wouldn’t stay still and the foliage was very thick.

A wild turkey encounter was the most frightening moment I had on my hike in Virginia in 1990. I mean, it was over in about a second but I had no idea what was going on -- except that it was loud. Roused a large wild turkey in the underbrush just off the trail. Skeered the bejezis outta me. They're big a$$ed birds, and ugly.

Sounds like your basic aggression response: one turkey defending its territory from another.

One more excellent reason to use trekking poles...

I agree, I have been startled/frightened by turkeys more than once. I am still waiting to be attacked by a grouse. I came across a hiker who was pretty shook up about being attacked by one and I thought he was a little crazy at first.

Its a little known fact that more hikers are killed by wild turkeys than by bear.

Maybe we could fasten this turkey injector on a hiking pole; go for the deep flavor marinade and the kill.
