--Money hikers spend during their hike

--Yuppies coming to think that if AL has a major trail like the AT running through it, it must be a cool place with lots of outdoor recreation opportunities, so worth living in and contributing their tax dollar to the local/county/state governments

--Politicians able to claim they brought something major to the state (think of how they go on when a pro-sports team relocates to their state), especially in those areas near enough to the Trail that local businessmen might think it'd help their businesses

    --Fame, however minor

--Maybe, just maybe, some of them like the outdoors
