is there a floor in that shelter? i think i remember it being a dirt floor in 99' and earl saying he wanted to tear it down himself if they put a floor in it.

I was told they put the floor in around 1983. That was when Earl asked his name be taken off of it. According to folks I interviewed, he disliked the floor and the rubber roof.

The issues with the floor, I was told, were twofold: Earl felt sleeping on the ground was just better sleeping and he was concerned food would fall between the boards of the floor and cause critters to nest under it.

By the way, when they rebuild the shelter for the museum, it will be sans floor and rubber roof.
