Appalachian Trail Survey Maintenance Technician

Base rate: $320 /week + $0.31 mile personal vehicle use. Position beginning 1 April for 10 weeks.

LOCATION: Appalachian Trail Conference Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, travel to various locations from Maine to Virginia.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, experience or training in natural resources management or related fields; proven ability to travel on foot over rough terrain for long distances; proficient map and compass skills; good communication and time management skills; ability to work with volunteers and inspire cooperation; personal vehicle/willingness to travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain boundary survey lines of Appalachian National Scenic Trail corridor to NPS and USFS specifications; help organize and co-lead volunteer corridor monitoring and maintenance workshops.

This job would turn you into a yellow blazer. I participated in a boundary monitoring workshop led by someone in this position a couple years ago. His pack and compass were covered with yellow paint. Great job, though.
